Tottenham Hotspur and US international DeAndre Yedlin is on the verge of signing a loan deal with Sunderland to help his chances of playing first-team football in the Premier League.
Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has made eight signing this summer, and hopes to add Yedlin to the pile of new players that can try to help the club stay in the Premier League this season. For American fans, though, the potential move for Yedlin to Sunderland will be worrisome given the way that Jozy Altidore was unable to make an impact at the Northeast club while Gus Poyet was manager at the American-owned club.
Spurs has shopped Yedlin around Europe this summer in hopes of finding a club that would be willing to take on the speedy American who can play right back or right wing.
The transfer window in England closes at 1pm ET. Sunderland are hoping to complete the deal in time.
Yedlin is currently training with the US squad in preparation for its upcoming friendlies against Peru (Friday) and Brazil (next Tuesday).
